Wild Horses

Some of you may not know that in the very most northern part of the Outer Banks, there are 117 wild horses that roam around wherever they want. Legally, people are not allowed to go within 50 feet of these beauties and if someone does, the WILD horses will kick and/or bite to stay away. These horses have never been cared for by humans and are descendants of the Spaniards' horses from several several moons ago (late 1500s).

What is really cool is that people can rent 4x4 Jeeps and drive along the beach coast to see these gorgeous wild horses. After driving along the coast for a little bit, you can turn left to drive through the dunes, see multi million dollar homes, and witness the horses living in these people's front and back yards. The laws are so strict that if a horse lays down in the middle of a person's driveway, they have to wait until the horse decides to get up before they can come or go.

Most of the entire Fennel Fam rented Jeeps one day and we all packed into four Wranglers to go off roading on the beach and the dunes. The second day, we begged Papa Fennel (my father in law) to take the Pilot out on the beach. So he lowered the air pressure in his tires and took us up there again. Both days were incredibly fun and we saw so many wild 'stangs!

The day before we rented the Jeeps, we all went to The Wild Horse Museum -- a tiny, old, white house that had transformed into a gift shop and museum. We learned all about the horses from this very elderly, sweet old man and even donated to the Wild Horses :)

..... in the best possible way.

For every bottle of wine sold, a portion goes to keeping the Wild Horses safe from property developers!

Sounds like a Win, Win to me!!

Matt decided to drive

Dream Home ^^

A colt that was born the day prior

Right on the coast.

Perfect Example of cars having to stop and wait until the horses decided to get up and move.

Horse Fight!

Just hanging out in someones back yard.

After driving through the dunes and seeing some horses --- Tom, Matt, Holli, and Zander tried to fly a kite on the beach.

Matt and I stayed inside the car (it was raining) and enjoyed the show.

It was quite hilarious.

Cute Picture!

**My next blog will involve all of the fun we had during our actual roadtrip. And all the sights and stops along the way! :)
