So after our trip in Gulf Shores (for the week): Matt, Matt's parents, and I drove the four hours into Louisiana and spent the night in New Orleans. I knew very little about New Orleans (other than Katrina and Mardi Gras) before actually visiting. I had asked people who visited before for some suggestions - and tried to make the best of the one night we had.
Compliments of Matt's parents, we all stayed at the Hilton Hotel in downtown New Orleans, which was only a block or so from Bourbon Street. After checking in and getting ready - we met in the lobby and headed out on the town.
We grabbed dinner at Oceana Grill which was SO AMAZEBALLS - then walked up and down Bourbon Street until we settled at the "Spirits on Bourbon" piano bar for the remainder of the night.
And just being honest -- Bourbon St. was dirty. I truly didn't expect it to be as crazy/nasty as it was.
The following morning we went back to Cafe Beignet and saw people passed out drunk on the sidewalks and workers hosing down puke, liquor, urine, etc., and just gross, gross, gross. It reminded me so much of the Las Vegas Strip (which I wasn't a huge fan of either). But like I told Matt, Bourbon St. is a once-in-a-life-must-see. And now that we have, it will be getting checked off the list.
Not saying that we won’t ever go back to New Orleans. On the contrary, we would love to take a weekend trip to do the ghost tours, see the graveyards, 9th ward, so on and so forth – and will likely be planning a return trip soon.
SO after one very large hand grenade (and getting a good buzz going), my in-laws and hubby thought it’d be a great idea to have the dueling piano players and entire bar to sing Happy Birthday to me. Now, I’m not a shy girl – but GOOD GOD, this guy! The piano player was such a creep and asked me to do totally inappropriate things to a water bottle in front of my IN-LAWS and the entire bar!
Matt said I was as red as a lobster – and it’s pretty hard to embarrass me in front of a crowd. Even so, I humored the guy – and played along. My father in law has the video on his phone. I’ll consider uploading it later. Towards the end of the night, that piano guy told me that "I smelled so good – and he that he could just eat me." YIKES.
We left shortly afterwards. Before we knew it, it was the next morning and we were back on the road headed toward Wisconsin. Only 1100 miles to drive. In one day.
Enjoy the pics (that are out of order):

A video of our flashing drinks that we paid $15 for and tasted like syrup mixed with Windex.
