Yes, I have started my Christmas shopping. Yes, I have picked out our holiday greeting cards. And yes, I have my Christmas wish list finished - but first! Halloween!!
A couple weekends ago, Matt's family and I went to the World's Largest Cornmaze in Illinois (Richardson Farm). We go every year (except last - because I can't remember why). And every year, Matt gets super determined to complete the entire thing. We did ONCE - and since then have given up after a couple hours.
I really don't know if its truly the world's LARGEST, but fuck. It's big. Of course it rained. I think it does every year. And of course I was sick with the cold. Another annual tradition. I bundled up in layers. and wine. lots of wine.
For Halloween this year, Matt and I originally planned on not passing out candy at all. I mean, come on. We have three monsters. That HATE the doorbell and any kind of visitor walking in front of the house without their permission. But I talked with fellow dog mom who used caution police tape to block off their front door and just placed the candy out front. Simple enough.
It worked like a CHARM. Except for one person who was still stupid enough to not get the hint and knocked on our door anyway. The dogs went ape shit crazy. We didn't answer.
The pups LOVED carving the pumpkin. Really they loved EATING the pumpkin. Bad manners with jumping on the counter, but what's new?
New to this year, we painted a small pumpkin teal and also passed out stickers, pencils, and small toys for children with food allergies. My poor god daughter is allergic to so much food, and her mom has done a lovely job bringing attention the the #tealpumpkinproject on Facebook (whoever displays a teal pumpkin on their doorstep is telling other families with food allergies that they have non-food options for their littles). SO cool. You should do it too next year!
Except I don't think the people in small town Edgerton really understood it. I mean, the blue bucket was empty in less than an hour. Those kids couldn't ALL have allergies. Sigh.
Oh and, Pappy HATED the blue pumpkin. He was so alarmed by it. The 53 pound orange pumpkin that sat on the table, on the other hand, didn't bother him a bit. That blue one though....
After carving and painting the pumpkins and decorating the door - I dressed all furbabies (and Dad) up for pictures, then settled in with my wine (shocker, right?), Reeses, and Michael Myers. A MUST on Oct 31. He is Purrrrrrrrrrrrrreeee Evil.
Did you know that raw organic pumpkin seeds can act as a natural dewormer for pups??? They make great treats!
Buutttttttt -- They're also super yummy if you roast them (with some EVOO and garlic powder... Mmmmmmm)!!
Treat yo self.
OH, and don't throw your carved pumpkin away.... throw it in your flower bed instead. Its a great natural fertilizer.
The pitties and kitties did not like the whole costume part.
The Wiggles!!
But they sure did love their cookies.....
Happy Fall (almost CHRISTMAS!!!!!) time.
