Home Improvements Beginning!

This blog is going to be super short because I've had the busiest week of my life at work and I quite honestly want to spend time with my hubby and not my laptop.

In my last post (at the end), I touched on a couple exciting updates going on in our lives.

Baby Pup:

Just two days ago, I got a message from Kelli - the breeder of Wrinkleland Kennels saying:

"Just a little note to let you know that both of the girls have been breed and we will find out on the 23rd of May if Blue Ivy is having babies and then 2 weeks later if KayTee Jo is having one."
Now for those of you who don't know already-- Matt and I love our animals, Ernie and Lulu, and spoil them to the fullest. We love them as our children. So I'm sure you can imagine our enthusiasm getting this message. Its nearly equivalent to finding out we could be expecting our own baby..... almost. Needless to say, we're thrilled/excited/anxious, and cannot wait until May 23rd! (Lets hope for a BLUE Shar Pei!!)
New Countertops:
When first viewing our house, I remember exactly how I felt when I first saw the faint, yellow polka dots on our white old countertops. Horrible -- Like an old fifties style countertop -- I have been waiting and waiting and waiting to order the new ones and get the ugly ones OUT. Well, this Saturday will be that day! My parents are coming to visit this weekend while Matt is at work and Dad is going to help measure the old ones then come with me to order the new. Woohoo!! I cannot wait to get them installed and show you all our new kitchen!

Spring/Summer is here!

We used to have an old wooden hand-me-down table outside on our patio. The table wasn't even meant to be outside, but it was the only thing we had -- so there it sat. After the wedding, we got rid of the old wooden table and purchased new chairs, a new table, a fireplace pit, some throw pillows, and solar patio lights to go with our new smoker and old grill. We couldn't wait for the weather to warm up so we could plant some flowers and our favorite herbs. Well most of you know this Wisconsin weather has been absolute hell until this week. I figured with my mom and dad being in town, I could use their green thumbs to helps me pick out some annuals and/or perennials to plant in pots. I have the slightest idea on what soil to buy, flowers to pick, or how to plant them... so I am so thankful that my great parents will be here to help. The only thing is--- its supposed to rain on Saturday -- go figure! That's what a garage is for, right? Next week, I will post befores and afters of our back patio so you can all see. Its going to be beautiful. I can't wait to enjoy it in the future months and cookouts to come.

New Carpet:

We didn't realize how stained and old our berber carpets were until we closed on our house and walked though it completely empty. Probably because the house was bare and we could see the shade difference between where the past home owners' couch use to sit and the open space. Conveniently, we put our couch in the same spot, so other people who walk through our house can't see it either. Well, in the past year, the carpet has gotten worse and now we're just itching to replace it. So, last week I called H & R carpets and scheduled someone to come measure our family room on the first floor and the entire second floor (excluding the bathroom -- obviously). He came this morning and I'm interested to see how many square feet it will be/how much this will cost us (maybe we'll have enough for new kitchen, bathroom, and foyer flooring, too??). Thank God we have time to save money. In fact, we have several months until this new carpet happens........

Fennels bring home puppy > Puppy gets potty trained > Fennels get new carpet.

We know better. Those puppies will take all the nice away from brand new carpet.

Trash the Dress:

I have officially scheduled a Trash the Dress session with a photographer friend. I am so excited for Matt and I to get all fancied up again and have one last photo shoot in our wedding attire. I want to keep the details a surprise, but I can assure you it won't be completely disastrous.

Before the wedding, I purchased a Dress Preservation Kit and I have every intention on using it, but I figured since I spent a hundred bucks on preserving it, I could at least get it a little more dirty, right? It will be a great time and after it gets a little more dirty, it will be sent to get cleaned and preserved so it can sit in a box for the next twenty five years until Jaclyn Jr. gets married.

Speaking of: I am also hoping to preserve my veil. My amazing.... Beautiful.... Perfect veil.

Boom! That veil.

That veil is one of the pieces I knew I had to save and cherish forever. In fact, the second I put it on at the store (as corny as this sounds), I knew one day I'd wrap my week old baby in it for their newborn pictures. I immediately looked forward to my daughter or future daughter-in-law wearing it on her wedding day. I knew I wanted that veil before I even put on my dress. My consultant pulled dresses to match that veil. It was that important. Sort of like, "Say Yes to the Veil"

So just my luck, when taking this picture.... (A picture -- in my opinion -- isn't even one of the best)

My precious veil got caught on one of the million thorns surrounding us and RIPPED the tulle down the middle.

Hmmmmm....

Dream Fail.

So now, I'm left with a gorgeous 11 eleven foot cathedral veil with a tear right down the middle. Now, I don't know much about sewing and fabrics and what not, but I'm guessing there is not a lot that can be done. Some people have recommended putting bridal buttons down the middle and seeing if someone can alter/design the veil to fix the tear. I even thought about purchasing another veil (the exact one I wore except brand new) and saving it for future generations, but wouldn't that lose the significance? I just don't know. Maybe I'll do both. I love that veil that much. All 300 dollars of it and now multiplied by two??! Sigh.
Anywho (again -- I got a little side tracked), our trash the dress is scheduled for May 25th. I will not be wearing my veil.
**Side Note: If anyone knows any talented seamstresses, let me know! I will thank you forever!
For all of you Mommies out there, Happy Mothers Day on Sunday! Matt and I will be heading to Rockford for visit with our families. I'm excited to see what Matt, Ernie, and Lulu will have for me on Mom's Day. Breakfast in Bed? A little shiny sparking gift in a little box? A bouquet of roses?
A girl can dream.
