Memorial Day Weekend

Over the weekend, two of my friends had Destination Bachelorette parties that I was invited to. It breaks my heart to say that I wasn't able to attend either - thanks to needing to pay for some important things  (Being an adult sucks!)-- but that doesn't mean the weekend went to waste.

Matt and I spent the entire weekend together. Going to Farmer's Market on Saturday morning with our friends, Charlie and Allie.

I absolutely LOVE Madison's farmer's market. Its on the square in downtown Madison and there are hundreds of local farmers selling their all organic produce, meat, honey, herbs, cheese, etc. Obviously we only care about the produce and herbs -- but its still equally amazing. Every time we go -- I contemplate spending a billion dollars and thank heavens I have my darling husband behind me reminding me of those "adult - more important" things we have to pay for.

Eventually, I will learn to write out my grocery shopping list and bring it with -- as its happened the past three weeks -- that I forgot to write it out before going! UGH!

I really would like to grow our own garden and be "self sufficient" in the foods we purchase the most. Matt swears that we need a bigger space to garden -- but I think we could do "okay" with what we have. They haven't brought out all of their vegetables/produce - thanks to the late spring. And our annual "Fennel herb" purchase hasn't happened yet -- because we haven't seen any! Are the Fennels going extinct?

I honestly don't even know WHERE to begin with gardening. I would assume "Gardening for Dummies" - a book I will most likely be purchasing in the near future.

After the Farmer's Market -- we headed to Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin to Wollersheim Winery - a very popular, awarded "Wine of the Year", local winery that has been around since the late 1800s. Their owner and head winemaker is from France and started as an intern in his late teens. The place was breathtaking and the wine was yum, yum, yum. Philippe, the french winemaker, also came out with a 100% Wisconsin Brandy that Matt had a particular liking to thanks to the similarities of his most beloved bourbon. And I fell in love with the "ice wine" --- which is a unique take on Wisconsin wine making -- where they don't harvest the grapes until mid-December (after they freeze). The result is a super dee duper sweet white wine. YUM!

Beautiful!

We tasted every single wine they had. See all of our chips.

Wine cellar and bourbon barrels.

Can you say lush??

Sunday involved going to church, grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning. You know. Normal people stuff.

Monday involved organizing and cleaning out our garage after the dreadful winter we just had - married people stuff.

The first Memorial Day as Vegans -- and I'm surprised we didn't cookout using some tofu, tempeh, bell peppers, and potatoes. Most likely, because until 4pm, our grill was hidden under five feet of dirt and junk in our garage.

Although - I did just get this awesome looking VEGAN recipe for grilling - thanks to my friend's, Elin's post on Facebook. I might just have to convince Matt to try this with me tonight.  Click here to get it!

Hope everyone had a great memorial day -- and a special thank you to all those who serve and protect our country. GO USA.
