Puppies' First Christmas

The puppies had an awesome first Christmas. And for us, this year was the best one yet. We loved celebrating with our two new furbabies, hosting in our new home, and visiting with family. God has blessed us with more than we'll ever need. And we must have been good this year because Santa definitely spoiled us.

I finished wrapping all the gifts in the nick of time. The morning of Christmas Eve to be exact. And STILL - I had to keep them in the basement spare bedroom, so Pappy and Wally wouldn't get their little paws [or teeth] on them.

Like every year, we started our Christmas celebration at Grandma's house. It was wonderful visiting with Matt's sister, parents, and grandma, our Godson, nephew, and extended family. White elephants. The right, left game. Ten dollar gift exchange. AND a Secret Santa. Besides feeling like complete poop from my awful cold, it was lovely.

We headed home a little early (which sucked) so I could take some Ny-Quil and go to sleep. We crated the pups, started Its a Wonderful Life, made a bed on the floor - and camped in front of the Christmas tree. Hopefully next year, the boys will be able to sleep with us. Potty trained and all.

We snuck the presents under the tree Santa Claus came in the middle of the night and the furbabies were delighted to see the gifts on Christmas morning [that started at 5 AM]

My Christmas wish came true in that ALL FOUR FURBABIES were with us [and got along] while opening gifts on Christmas morning. Favorite gifts include: Matt's dart board and poker set, my once engagement ring turned into a beautiful necklace, Lulu's beanbag, Ernie's BILLION bags of kitty treats, Pappy and Wally's big boy bones, and their pink stuff animal dog - that, sadly, didn't last long and got his eye chewed out this morning.

Following opening gifts for the Fennel Zoo, my parents came over for cinnamon rolls and coffee and opened gifts with us. We headed to my sister's later in the morning, and ended back at our house with Matt's parents later in the day.

Things that happened on Christmas:
  • The puppies accidentally got locked in the spare bedroom and we had to take off the doorknob to let them out.
  • The truck/block set for our nephews and the Shopkins for our nieces were a HUGE hit.
  • Taboo is one of my new favorite games.
  • We "adopted" (donated to) an Amur Leopard through World Wildlife Federation. They are critically endangered and only thirty are thought to still exist.
  • We cracked open Brandy at 9 AM - Wisconsin Style
  • I got a "puppy baby bag" to carry all of Pappy's and Wally's essentials that ironically says "Crazy Cat Lady" -- LOVE
  • Matt got a brew your own beer and age your own whisky set
  • The puppies love their new deer antler chew toys {NOT VEGAN}
  • We read our puppies' DNA results! (See previous post by clicking here)
  • Caribbean Santa Claus had quite the surprise for us in Matt's stocking. More on that later.
  • I added a TON of used books and Disney movies to my collections
  • Matt sipped whiskey out of his famous blue coffee mug in remembrance of his Grandpa Bert.

Enjoy the pictures:

Late last night, Pappy and Matt fell asleep in the recliner (SO ADORABLE)

And I dozed off in front of the Christmas tree one last time.

In my opinion, December 26th is the most depressing day of the year.

No more Christmas.

Lulu is NOT happy about it. That face...

Neither is Matt. Or anyone for that matter.

Bye Bye Christmas tree.

also!

QUITE POSSIBLY - the BEST Christmas gift ever. An after thought sign that my mom happened to find at Farm and Fleet for $3.50.

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
And fits us PERFECTLY.

Only 363 more days until Christmas!!!!

DNA Test Results!!!

You've heard all of our guesses: Rottweiler, Doberman, German Sherpherd, Australian Sheperd, Catahoula Leopard Dog. But never in our wildest dreams would we have guessed this....

For starters, just as we suspected -- Pappy and Wally have different daddies.

Their mommy -

An American Staffordshire Terrier!

Wally's Daddy --

An Australian Shepherd!!!!!

And Pappy's Daddy???

A GOLDEN DOODLE?!?!?

A golden retriever and Poodle mix!!!!!

Needless to say - we are SURPRISED!!

With Wally, we were spot on.
With Pappy!? SHOCKED.

Wally is predicted to weigh up to 62 pounds.
Pappy is predicted to weigh up to 70 pounds.

I can see the Golden Retriever traits (his long snout, floppy ears, etc.) but a POODLE?  He doesn't have long or curly hair at all! SUPER long legs..... but that's about it. Although, technically speaking he's only 25% poodle.... but for real!???

At times, we think there must have been a mistake --  like its their default answer if something went wrong.... but then again---

We NEVER said they were biological brothers. And their test results came back just as that. The exact same Mom -- so there has to be SOME validity to it.

What do you think? Could he really be part Poodle?!! Part of me wants to retest to see if we get the same results...... Thoughts?

We can't help but laugh.
And we've called him our little poodle since we read the results.
Pappy the Poodle

FUNNIEST THING EVER!!!!

In all seriousness though:

Poodles and Australian Shepherds are known to be two of the smartest breeds.

Pitbulls and Golden Retrievers: The most loyal.

To us - We've hit the jackpot. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
