Prep, Pictures, and Recipes

The Fennel Easter Sunday Menu (not including the dishes that guests are bringing):

Dinner rolls
Spiced Cake

Today has been lovely. Exactly what I needed after weeks of chaos. What did I do, you ask??

I spent the entire day cleaning and cooking, BOTH activities (might I add) which are absolutely 100% therapeutic, in my opinion. The boys woke us up at 6 AM (which sucked) but it actually worked out wonderfully because I was able to go to Woodmans super early to beat the rush. So I thought.

Yes, I waited until the LAST MINUTE to go grocery shopping. Like every other year. Will I ever learn!?!  And as I pulled into the parking lot with my long ass list, I was delighted to find a parking spot right up front and notice the mostly empty lot around me.

It took about ten minutes of me peacefully walking through the aisles before the crowd rushed through. The Saturday before Easter -- Could I expect any less?

So, I spent eleventy million dollars on food and only ten dollars on two bottles of cheap wine (#wino) then headed home to my babes. Here's my fridge if you care to see.

Matt played video games all day and the boys napped 99% of the time (thank goodness).

This gave me the entire day to prep for tomorrow's festivities and relax a bit.

We will be hosting eleven people tomorrow, which means I got to pull out our two table leaves and admire our super pretty, grand dining room set.

I LOVE MY TABLE. I have always dreamed of owning one just like this for holidays .....and I just couldn't be happier. I was born to host dinner parties. It's my most absolute favorite thing.

So prepping:

I could cook all day, everyday. Drinking wine, listening to the Beatles or Frank Sinatra, and chopping away. It's my complete and utter happy place.  I'm a sous chef wannabe-  and can chop super, super fast! :)

Six pounds of sweet potatoes.

And three pounds of carrots.

I made homemade dressing from a new recipe using white wine vinegar, honey, and olive oil and I'm now OBSESSED. I will definitely be making this again. YUM.

And I've come to realize I can't host ANY function without fruit loop flavored Jell-O shots.

I pre-made the dessert. Spiced cake...

And finished with our dinner for tonight.

CHEESE, I know!! We're prepping our stomachs for all the eggs, cheese, and butter tomorrow. #vegetarianEaster #NOTvegan

The crazy OCD in me labeled all of the serving dishes for tomorrow.

Because I totally didn't have enough when we hosted Thanksgiving two years ago, and I had to use tupperware to serve the rest of my dishes. SO EMBARRASSING!!!!

Speaking of embarrassing: ah, curls!!

The difference a straightener can make!! I haven't actually styled my hair in months and hardly recognized myself with straight locks. It's grown infinitely longer and I FREAKING LOVE IT.

Fatboy Ernie has been walking with a limp lately. Which is concerning. And is also causing us to call him:
Fatboy GIMP.

I've already googled "cat limping" and it recommended taking him to the vet for x-rays! Oh goody. $$$$$ And what's the treatment for a broken cat bone????

Rest

HOW ARE CATS SUPPOSED TO REST ANYMORE THAN THEY ALREADY DO!?

Ernie already sleeps 23 hours a day!!!

The heartless mean Mommy in mean thinks he is just limping for attention and is secretly jealous of the pups. (kidding) Nonetheless, he will likely go meet Dr. Gerbig soon. $$$$$

Stay tuned for more on that.

Last night we went to the Good Friday Service at our church and it was so emotional and touching. And I couldn't have walked out of church feeling more thankful and blessed.

Coffee and Cinnamon rolls tomorrow morning. Followed by church. Then Easter bunny's gift baskets, LOTS of food, and fabulous company. I can't wait to see my family.

Lulu. Just because she doesn't get enough camera time and she's so fancy.

Annnnnd her twin because I just can't help myself.

HOPPY EASTER!
