Snip Snip

Well, it has been 24 hours since we have picked up our babies from the vet (post neuter). They're doing well. Lots of naps. Lots of cuddles.

But-- I am jumping five spaces ahead. Back to yesterday morning at 6 AM:

The car ride to the vet was the WORST. For starters, it was in Madison which was a thirty minute drive in. Matt and I were a bundle of nerves, and the boys HATE car rides.

Pappy whined the entire way in and Wally was a drooling machine soaking the back seat of our car with puddles, puddles, and more puddles.

Once we arrived at the clinic, Matt stood outside with the pups while I was inside registering them. Then just like that, one of the vet techs came out, leashed both boys, and took them back. I thought it would be much harder to let them go - but both were bright eyed, bushy and WAGGY tailed as they walked back with the techs. Poor things didn't know what they were walking into....

Matt and I left (still a bundle of nerves) and went to work. Several times throughout the day, at lunch, and often times to ourselves, we wondered how they were doing, if the surgeries had gone well, if they were scared, lonely, crying, sleeping, you name it: we worried about it.

After a LONG and torturous day, we were able to go pick them up. Right when they walked out with the vet, a thousand pounds lifted off our shoulders. We walked them to the car, and I rode in back with them the entire way home.

Another HORRIBLE ride

You could tell the boys were miserable, in pain, and scared.

Once we got home: the boys plopped on the living room floor and slept. We gave in - immediately - took off their cones, and carried them to the recliner and couch to rest.

The rest of the night was tough to say the least: Nausea, diarrhea, zero appetite, lots of crying/whining, confusion, shivers/trembles, and disorientation.

We put the cones back on before bed time, and camped out on the couch all night long.

Today has been better. Thank God! They're still moving very slowly, but there's also lots of wagging tails, and even more cuddles.

And what's a good way to have the pups not itch their wounds??

NEW TOYS!!!

I mean, it's not like they're spoiled or anything.

In all reality, they've done really well with not licking. Our plan is to put the cones on when they're crated (obvi), and when we can't watch them every single minute. In all reality, they've been practically in our laps for the past 24 hours. It's easy to monitor.

Pappy walked into the hallway during dinner and (after going to check on him) I caught him licking his "owie"

He learned very quickly that will not be accepted.

I mean, they have such tough lives.

I really don't know how they do it.

The boys are SUPER sad they couldn't walk outside today.

Lots of laying low (and brother cuddles) for the next couple of weeks.

Keep our #fennelpuppies in your prayers.

They really hate those cones....
