The Fennels: Winter-End Clearance!

When Matt and I first toured our house, the only thing that really, really bothered us was the fact that there was no fireplace. We both grew up in homes with fireplaces. And with us being huge fans of Christmas, snow, and anything Winter related, we were super bummed we couldn't cuddle up in front of the fireplace on future Christmas eves.

Well guess what?!?!?

Now we can!!!

Our original plan was to install a pellet stove in our family room on the first floor. Something like this (but prettier)

That way, the heat would go throughout the entire first floor and also upstairs to the bedrooms. But we also have an awesome finished basement/man cave. And since we've moved in, we've come to learn that it can get a little chilly in the basement while we're watching movies on the big screen. So we thought we would purchase an electric fireplace for downstairs and still install a pellet stove upstairs on the first floor. Two is always better, right?

I couldn't have my Christmas tree upstairs in the family room without a fireplace. And if you're thinking to yourself --- just put the Christmas tree downstairs with the electric fireplace -- We have two Christmas trees and the "Cubs themed" Christmas tree is set up in the basement. I still need a fireplace upstairs.

Yes, I know -- we're a little Christmas crazy.

We decided to go to a fireplace store and price out pellet stoves.

Oh-My-God! NO THANK YOU!

I could get new carpet, new countertops, and two electric fireplaces for the price of installing one pellet stove!!

And thats exactly what we're going to do.

We decided that instead of installing a pellet stove, we would just purchase two electric fireplaces -- one for the basement, the other for the family room on the first floor, so we could have enough money for other fun improvements. Our plan was to wait until this coming fall - when it started to get cold - to buy the fireplaces.

But at a random trip to Menards, we realized we could buy BOTH of them for less than the normal price of ONE! eeeek! I love sales. And even better --- I love clearances.

We purchased the two electric fireplaces on a whim and we're so happy we did. They each heat up to 400 square feet (which is more than enough for the family room and mancave TV room), they give off the same ambiance as normal fireplaces, and they were such a great deal.
